Ripley band Okapi entertain the crowds to win their battle of the bands heat.

Ripley-based band Okapi have set the benchmark for Deafbox Promotions’ first ever battle of the bands.

The four-piece indie punk band won over the audience, ensuring they got plenty of public votes.

Coming in a close second were another local band in the form of all-girl group The Deluded, who got a high public vote as well as the thumbs up from the judges. The final act through from the first heat were Bury the Ladybird. The female-fronted rock band put on a great performance that wowed the judges and got them the final spot.

Deafbox Promotions would like to thank all the bands that played in the heat and for all those who didn’t make it, there is still a wildcard slot which will be decided after all the heats have taken place.

The second heat saw six more bands fighting it out to get into the semi-finals. Winners were the only local band of the night, Just James. The electro rock/rap group ended the night with everyone on their feet and dancing away.

Second place went to Derby/Nottingham based The Riverview. With a mixture of drum beats, outstanding lyrics and a really energy in their performance, the post-hardcore band astounded the judges and ensured their passage to the next round.

Taking the final spot were Chesterfield band The Vulcans. Their mixture of well-chosen cover songs really impressed the people of Ripley and gave them a high percentage of the public votes.
