belpermusicandarts is to present a gig by local band The Pony Club in the Top Bar @ The Queen’s Head, Belper, on Saturday.
David Gibb is a 20-year-old Derbyshire acoustic folk artist whose music has been described as ‘modern English folk with a witty wordy charm and a bit of an uplifting infectious feel’ by one national magazine. Growing up firmly attached to the Derby music scene, David honed his skills playing and touring in local bands and after self releasing his debut EP in November 2007, he set about piecing together a group of close friends to support him on the road and in the studio.
That band is The Pony Club and consists of David playing guitar, piano, keyboards, harmonica and singing, along with Julian Butt on accordion and piano, Elly Lucas as fiddle player and with Ben Dew and Sam Jordan as the rhythm section. David and Elly together, as well as being involved with local arts organisation Fleet Arts, have just been nominated for the BBC Radio 2 ‘Young Folk Award 2011’.
The venue is on Chesterfield Road in Belper. Doors open at 8.15pm for a 9pm start and it is £5 on the door to get in.
