DERBY Jazz’s latest concert is to be given by Mike Janisch and takes place in the Darwin Suite at Derby’s Assembly Rooms on Friday, October 21, from 8pm.
Bassist Mike Janisch has played for Derby Jazz many times. His playing is always exciting and entertaining but this is the first visit with him leading his own band – Purpose-Built Quartet.
The music to be performed shows his wide range of tastes and influences and features Phil Robson on guitar, Steve Fishwick on trumpet/flugel horn, Andrew Bain on percussion and Alex Garnett on saxophones.
Mike Janisch’s compositions have a fresh take on modern jazz, offering a strong sense of melody. His arrangements of jazz classics are also different and exciting.
Tickets cost £12 (£10 concessions). Call the box office on 01332 255800.
