Sample sounds of South America

Crich is rounding off a sell-out Live & Local season by bringing South American music to The Glebe Field Centre on Saturday, May 17.

Leo Turner and Carlos Muñoz Villalobos combine the pure tonal qualities of the classical guitar with the haunting sounds of traditional Andean instruments in performances of delicate South American magic.

The duo’s work is inspired by the great masters of the guitar such as Lauro, Villa Lobos and contemporaries such as Gustavo Santaolalla, creating new music based on beautiful melodies from South America.

You will hear solo guitar pieces, guitar duos, pieces for quena (traditional South American flute), ocarina, cajon, charango (Andean lute) and, of course, pan pipes. The music reflects the breathtaking scenery and lively cultural differences all over South America.

Leo and Carlos bring many years of performing experience to their work, revisiting the traditional repertoire with a fresh, contemporary feel. In their hands even the simplest and most familiar material takes on new depth.

Doors open at 7pm for a 7.30pm start. There is a licensed bar and refreshments are available. Tickets in advance cost £9 for adults, £7 for those aged 12-16 (on the door, if available, add £1).
