Tom McGonville Band

THE Tom McConville Band will be performing at Derby’s Assembly Rooms on Friday, June 8, from 8pm.

The BBC Musician of the Year is one of the leading players of our time, creating his own unique, instantly recognizable sound.

His rich warm voice makes his interpretation of traditional and contemporary songs greatly admired by singers throughout the world.

Tom’s musical journey started in Tyneside folk clubs in the late 60s and early 70s. Newcastle’s thriving Irish scene provided the opportunity to support Sean McGuire, John Doonan, The Fureys, Boys of the Lough and even a lock-in with The Dubliners.

Tom’s “lively” band includes Shona Kipling, exceptional award-winning accordion player, Phil Murray (acoustic bass guitar), founder of Hedgehog Pie and currently touring with the Doonans, and Dave Newey, superb guitar and vocalist, finalist at the BBC’s Young Traditional Musician Contest.

Their live performances combine a rollercoaster of delight from fast, rhythmic dance tunes, through beautiful slow airs and great singing, all presented with Tom’s inimitable sense of humour and style.

Tickets are £15, concessions £14 and under 16s £7, available from the box office 01332 255800.
