DERBY-based professional orchestra Sinfonia Viva will make two appearances in the 2011-2012 Classical Season at the city’s Assembly Rooms.
The first appearance has been announced as being on January 24 from 7.30pm when the conductor will be Andre De Ridder. The programme is to start with an as-yet-unnnamed short orchestral work by James Redwood, workshop leader for Viva’s successful school residency projects.
The rest of the concert features Shostakovich’s Cello Concerto No 1 plus an arrangement by David Blake of Janacek’s set of piano pieces, On An Overgrown Path, and Mozart’s Symphony No 38 (‘Prague’).
The second visit to the venue takes place on April 23, also from 7.30pm, and will be conducted by Nicholas Collon. The programme in mainly English in content, including Britten’s Serenade For Tenor, Horn and Strings, plus Vaughan Williams’s Fifth Symphony.
