Leading conductor John Wilson will be at the helm of the City Of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra when they perform at Nottingham’s Royal Concert Hall on January 23.
A long-time and passionate advocate of English classical music, he will be conducting works by three of this country’s leading composers.
The programme starts with three of Elgar’s Pomp and Circumstance Marches.
Elgar completed five rousing marches in the series, with a sixth left unfinished, and the CBSO will be playing numbers three, four and five.
Paul Watkins will be the soloist when the CBSO plays William Walton’s Cello Concerto, one of the composer’s most expressive works.
The second half is given over to A London Symphony, the second of Vaughan Williams’s nine symphonies, a multi-faceted work showing the many moods of that city.
