The pizza chef’s cookery theatre complete with wood burning oven in full view of diners at Giorgio’s is mesmerising.
Saturday nights are a good measure of how successful a restaurant is. Fully booked on the night we went was proof of its popularity but despite it being busy, the service provided by the friendly, helpful staff at this vibrant restaurant was second to none.
Generous portions of good quality food were beautifully presented.
Mini lamb skewers and bread nestling in tomato sauce got my meal off to a fine, flavoursome start. My companion opted for a rich, hearty tomato soup.
Onto the main course and I chose the calzone rustico, a light pastry case wrapped around Italian sausage, ham, mozzarella cheese and tomato, which was delicious.
My partner chose the panfried breadcrumbed lamb chops served with garlicky, herby roast potatoes, a mint and tomato salsa and a side dish of green beans, courgettes, carrots and red pepper drizzled in oil. At £19.95, the lamb was one of the priciest main courses on the menu but the taste was worth every penny.
Stuffed though I was, I couldn’t resist the profiterols - light, fluffy pastry clouds oozing white chocolate and cream in a chocolate sauce. Sheer heaven on a plate!
After requesting a small portion of vanilla ice cream, my partner rounded off his meal with an espresso, voting it the best coffee in town. However, the accompanying biscuit in plastic wrapper looked cheap and was the only low spot in a great meal.
A complimentary glass of dessert wine completed our lovely first night at Giorgio’s….it won’t be our last visit.
