THIS year’s Dovedale Sheepdog Trials are to be held on August 23 and 24 at Blore Crossroads, Ilam, the site of the tremendously successful English National Sheepdog Trials in 2008.
Not only are some of the country’s top dog handlers going to be present – the likes of Jim Cropper, Tim, Thomas and Michael Longton, Mark Elliott, Danny Wild – but also local runners Wayne Allen and Ben Smith, both of whom were at the English National (Ben also having qualified for the World Trials with two of his dogs) and BBC TV’s Gus Dermody, while there is also a competitor coming over from the USA.
For the first time, there is going to be a Championship of the Dales which will feature the top 12 dogs running off over a double gather course for the prestigious prize, sponsored by Longcliffe Quarries Ltd.
The trials start at 7am on both days and, as well as the trials themselves, there will be some craft stalls and a beer tent and refreshments throughout.
Admission is just £3 per day (£5 for both days) for adults with children under 16 and car parking is free of charge.
