Birthday bash for poetry night

QUAD’s Poetry Night celebrates its first birthday in April.

Quad Poetry Night is a performance poetry night for everyone, offering an opportunity for poets to try out their verse in a warm and enthusiastic atmosphere.

Over 60 people regularly attend the monthly Poetry Night in the Derby-based arts centre, for the chance to have fun with the spoken word and a little music with twenty or more performers ranging in age from 19 to 79 and in styles from rap to traditional verse.

The MC is Les Baynton, a published poet whose work has also been broadcast on BBC Radio’s Poetry Corner and Talking Poetry. He said: “Poetry Night has really established itself over the past year and is now the largest regular poetry gathering in the region. I have written a special poem about QUAD to mark the occasion, which will have its first airing on the birthday night and performers will be delivering their favourite pieces.”

Poetry Night takes place in the Quad Café bar every second Thursday of the month from 7.30pm until 9.30pm, and entrance is free. For more information, go to
