Chekhov classic at the Guildhall

Renowned theatre company Shifting Sands is to perform its comical yet beautiful adaptation of The Seagull by Anton Chekhov at Derby’s Guildhall Theatre on Wednesday, March 5, from 7.30pm.

Shifting Sands has a well-deserved reputation for creating invigorating interpretations of classic texts and the current offering will delight new audiences as well as established followers.

“I am delighted to be able to retell this classic”, said artistic director Gerry Flanagan. “It’s one of my favourites. Being able to tour it to The Guildhall in Derby, is very exciting.”

This fresh adaptation gives a snapshot into the lives of four Chekhov fanatics. The famous actress, her son, and their lovers leap into action as they discover unexpected comic opportunities.

Their enthusiasm and innocence will allow you to see Chekhov anew. It will be hilarious but the characters delicate handling of tragic scenes will move us, the result? Theatre - with an emotional punch.
