An informal audition will be held at Baslow Village Hall on Thursday, August 23, for those wishing to join the Baslow Players.
This takes place from 7.30pm-9.30pm while, on the following Wednesday and Thursday (August 29-30), members will be painting the scenery ahead of the forthcoming production of Hansel And Gretel: A Magical Fairytale.
Cast decisions and the set will all be prepared so the group can start rehearsals on September 6, and then every Thursday from 7.30pm-9.30pm, usually in Baslow Village Hall.
Baslow Players has had a history of one pantomime and two plays a year for at least 20 years. In more recent times, this was slimmed down to the successful pantomime. However, in the last five years, this has been intermittent, so the Baslow Players’ new committee has announced its intention to produce an original script, Hansel and Gretel: A Magical Fairy Tale, by new chairman and vice-chairman Zoe Wareham and Robin Proudfoot.
Zoe previously co-wrote a script for Snow White for the production in 2006. The script incorporates traditional and contemporary aspects and the pair have been avidly researching sweets for the set with real gusto.
They also believe you’ll be genuinely surprised by their take on the audience singalong section, so if you have any inclination at all, on or off stage, you are invited to come along to the sessions later this month.
The performance dates for the production are February 25-March 2 and tickets go on sale on December 1.
