Elizabeth Forrest’s exhibition The Canticle of the Sun by St Francis of Assisi is the latest selection that can be seen in the Sir Richard Morris Lounge at Derby Cathedral Centre.

The exhibition takes place throughout the whole of July.

Seven pieces of text have been selected by lettering artist Elizabeth Forrest.

They have been painted with acrylic and gouache paint on a heavily textured hand made paper, using fine brush for the words.

Each verse has a different coloured paper reflecting its subject so that the whole sequence is a fascinating journey through St Francis’s hymn of praise to God.

Elizabeth Forrest is a Welsh-born lettering artist and paper maker now living in Derbyshire.

She obtained her degree at the University of Wales, Aberystwyth, and later she completed her advanced training in calligraphy in London.

She has exhibited widely and in 2013 was elected asa a Member of the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists.

Elizabeth has been a member of Peak District Artisans since 2007.

She describes her work as a unique, highly personal response to texts from the varied sources which inspire her and is based on a love of words combined with a passion for colour and texture.
