Extraordinary wartime story

Award-winning actress Patricia Routledge (Hyacinth Bucket in Keeping Up Appearances) and international concert pianist Piers Lane will be appearing in Admission One Shilling at Buxton Opera House on Wednesday, April 27, to tell the extraordinary story of Dame Myra Hess and her famous wartime National Gallery concerts.

In Dame Myra’s own words, compiled by her great-nephew, composer Nigel Hess and with piano music by Bach, Beethoven, Schubert, Brahms, Schumann and Chopin, we hear how the ‘great adventure’ of these 1,600 lunchtime concerts began, and how it continued while ‘bombs rained down on London’.

Directed by Christopher Luscombe, Admission One Shilling beautifully intersperses drama with a collection of touching musical moments.

The show starts at 7.30pm. Tickets are £14.50 and £16.50 and discounts are available. Call the box office on 0845 127 2190.
