HMT hits the road for summer fun

Heanor Musical Theatre Company is to hit the road as its members take the show Sounds of Summer on tour.

For the first time ever Heanor Musical Theatre Company is going on tour across Derbyshire.

Their summer revue of music and comedy sketches will be performed in Heanor, Little Eaton and South Normanton.

Kim Harris, the chairman of Heanor Musical Theatre Company, says that, following their very successful pantomime Aladdin performed in Heanor in February, the members and children from their youth wing Rising Stars have been busily rehearsing.

Included in the revue are songs from the Beach Boys, The Drifters, Nina Simone, the Electric Light Orchestra and the Beatles. There will be hilarious sketches and monologues – an evening full of summer fun.

The musical director is Charlotte Daniel.

Sounds of Summer will be performed at:

n Wilmott Street Centre, Heanor, on Friday, June 20, and Saturday, June 21, at 7.30pm. Tickets are £6

n The Post Mill Centre, South Normanton, on Friday, June 27, at 7.30pm. Tickets are £5.

n Little Eaton Village Hall, St Peter’s Park on Saturday, June 28, at 7.30pm. Tickets are £6.

Kim Harris said: “For the first time in our 40-plus years history the company is going on tour with this summer revue. As well as performing in our home town of Heanor we are delighted to be visiting Little Eaton and South Normanton. We are rehearsing hard to produce a fun evening of lively music and hilarious comedy – a great night out.

“We hope new audiences will turn out to support us and also enjoy themselves.”

Charlotte Daniel, the company’s new musical director, said: “I have really enjoyed working with the company to prepare this fun and uplifting mix of songs which really are the Sounds of Summer.

“We have something for all the family to enjoy, including a small live band to really get you in the holiday spirit.”

n Soul sensation Paul Carrack is to return to the area later this year.

He will be performing at Nottingham’s Royal Concert Hall on Wednesday, November 5, at 7.30pm.

Singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Carrack has enjoyed a memorable in the music industry.

He has contributed vocals while a member of such groups as Mike And The Mechanics, Ace and Squeeze.

Among his other achievements are performing keyboards parts on the self-titled debut album from The Smiths.

Since then he has developed an acclaimed solo career which keeps on flourishing.
