THE Wirksworth Festival is to host an ‘in conversation’ event featuring Kate Allen, director of Amnesty International UK, on Thursday, September 15.
The venue is to be Wirksworth Town Hall, based on Coldwell Street.
Celebrating 50 years since the founding of Amnesty International, Kate Allen will discuss the achievements and future challenges of the organisation. This will be followed by questions from the audience before the evening draws to a close with the cutting of a cake to mark Amnesty’s anniversary year.
The festival’s Paul Webb, said: “It’s a privilege and a delight that the most senior member of Amnesty International UK is taking time out to celebrate in Wirksworth the achievements of 50 years of Amnesty International and share the future challenges for Amnesty at this pivotal time for human rights.”
Doors open at 7pm. Tickets cost £8 (children and concessions £4) and are available from the Festival Booking Office, Heritage Centre, Wirksworth.
