One-man play looks at author

THE acclaimed one-man play Phoenix Rising can be seen in Derby Theatre Studio from September 21-24.

The Theatre Action production is subtitled DH Lawrence: Son And Lover, and is set in 1928, as the author is nearing the end of his short life.

In a series of animated snapshots, and devised from his early writings and reminiscences of his family, friends and contemporaries, Lawrence presents the personalities and events which shaped the first part of his life.

A complex and self-contradictory man, often out of step with his background and education, Lawrence is revealed as a man with a gift for mimicry, profound storytelling and an ability to challenge the sexual morality of his generation in works such as Lady Chatterley’s Lover.

Tickets cost £12 (£10 concessions) from the box office on 01332 255800.
