Spotlight is on top comic performers

The latest Spotlight Comedy Club takes place at the Winding Wheel in Chesterfield on Thursday, November 28.

On the bill for the event at the Holywell Street-based venue will be Gavin Webster, Steve Williams and your compere Anthony J Brown.

Gavin Webster is a funny, thought-provoking Geordie raconteur with a staggering turn of phrase. His slew of credits include Never Mind The Buzzcocks, The Stand-Up Show, The Comedy Store, The 11 O’ Clock Show, Does Doug Know and the Radio 4 sketch show The Show What You Wrote.

Famed and respected by his peers for his uncompromising and unusual approach and distinctly original routines, he now boasts a large cult following around the country and particularly on his native Tyneside, where he sells out theatres with his one man 90-minute shows.

With hard-edged routines, quickfire pastiche pieces, moronic jokes and sardonic songs, his unique style is a joy to behold.

A Chortle Award nominee and BBC New Comedy Award Finalist, Steve Williams is one of the most exciting and electrifying live performers on the circuit.

Steve never fails to surprise and engage audiences with his hybrid of bizarre stories, larger-than-life physicality, spontaneous improvisation and his off-the-wall take on everyday life.

His three solo shows at the Edinburgh Fringe have garnered considerable critical success.

Steve premiered his first solo stand-up show Steve Williams: Excitable at the Edinburgh fringe in 2006, he returned in 2007 with Steve Williams: Binge Thinking, which was followed by a national tour of Edinburgh and Beyond. This year Steve toured with his new stand-up show Stand Up Story Man.

TV credits include appearances on Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow, and he is also one of the core writers on BBC3’s Russell Howard’s Good News.

Entry is £11/£9/£6 (student price). Doors open at 7.30pm for an 8pm start. Call the box office on 01246 345222.
