Top quartet to play in Matlock

THE world-famous Allegri String Quartet will be performing in the Wheeldon Hall, Highfields School, Lumsdale, off Chesterfield Road, Matlock, on Friday, February 18.

Established in 1953, the Allegri Quartet is Britain’s oldest and longest surviving chamber ensemble, sustained over six decades by successive generations of the finest international performers. Their substantial recording history includes many acclaimed discs, several of which have been first choice on Radio Three’s Building a Library. They have given over 60 world premieres.

Their concert programme will include major string quartets by Haydn – Opus 20, no.2, Shostakovich – Opus 73, no.3 in F major, and Beethoven – Opus 59, no.2 in C (‘Razumovsky’).
