A host of well-known TV stars will be appearing at Buxton Opera House next week in Alan Ayckbourn’s modern classic Table Manners.
Anna Brecon (Emmerdale) Marcus Hutton (Brookside) and David Callister (The Bill) tread the boards in the production by Talking Scarlet which runs in town from February 26 to 28.
Table Manners forms part of the trilogy The Norman Conquests written in 1973. Each play is a self-contained work depicting the events of a single weekend from the perspective of different locations in the same house.
The action begins when Sarah and Reg arrive to give Annie (Reg’s younger sister) the chance to escape for a rest. Fireworks begin when Annie tells Sarah she is going away with her sister’s husband, Norman.
Central to these relationships is Norman an assistant librarian, who desperately needs to be liked and in doing so tries to bring happiness to the lives of the three women present at the house. Hardly surprising when you meet his wife, Ruth, a career-obsessed woman with little apparent need for Norman.
Performances of Table Manners are at 7.30pm with a Saturday matinee at 2.30pm. Tickets £16 and £19. To book, contact 0845 127 2190 or www.buxtonoperahouse.org.uk
