there’ll be song, dance and plenty of corny gags in Eyam next week.
The cast are busy putting the finishing touches to this year’s pantomime, Ali Baba.
Several of the forty thieves are on a training course in Sheffield (the centre of the steal industry and the jokes get no better!)
However, the remaining 10, led by Mustaphanother (Tim Warburton) are splendidly evil and incompetent in turn.
Dame Baba ( Richard Gilbourne) wrings her hands in despair at her two wastrel sons, Ali and Rhum Baba (Ruth Jackson and Joe Taylor) but Ali finally defeats the thieves, finds the treasure and wins the hand of his lady love Coriander (Emily Spittle). Add the Sultan and his harem, Aunty Septic, the matchmaker and a comic camel to the mix and you have the makings of a delightful evening’s entertainment full of songs and dances.
The panto runs from Wednesday 9 to Saturday 12 January, at 7.30pm, with a matinee on Saturday at 2pm, at the Mechanics’ Institute, Eyam.
Tickets £6, Friday and Saturday evenings £7 (children half price)
