A Flowerpot Festival will be held in Pinxton this September and organisers hope the zany celebration will bring out the creative side in young and old.

The event is organised by Bolsover District Council to lift community spirits and comes hot on the heels of the successful Palterton Flowerpot Festival.

Mary Dooley, councillor for Pinxton, said: “We want communities to start and get back to normal and what better way than a fun competition that gets a whole village celebrating together.

“We want residents to come up with fun and interesting ideas for their creations. It could be anything that celebrates the history of our village, famous celebrities, animal characters - basically anything that brightens up the village and puts a smile on people’s faces as they walk around.”

Villagers can find out how to make the sculptures and get involved at a free workshop on Saturday, September 11, from 10am to 12 noon at St Helen’s Church Hall, Pinxton.

The flowerpot characters will be on display for two weeks from Monday, September 20.
