Win passes to 1940s festival

The D-Day Darlings
The D-Day Darlings

Comradeship and cameraderie of wartime will be recaptured as Chesterfield turns back the clock for a festival.

The 70th anniversary of D-Day makes this year’s 1940s and Vintage Weekend particularly special.

History and entertainment will be showcased across three venues from February 21-23.

The spectacular kicks off with a swing jive dance lesson in the Winding Wheel, followed by a Big Band dance that night.

A vintage fair in the Winding Wheel on the Saturday and Sunday will feature more than 40 stalls.

The Pomegranate Theatre will host Ken Loach’s film Spirit of ‘45, on the Saturday. The film, which uses clips from regional and national archives, reflects the community spirit which buoyed Britain during the war years.

The following afternoon sees a concert of wartime songs, including We’ll Meet Again and White Cliffs of Dover, in the theatre.

Find out what life was like on the Home Front by visiting Chesterfield Museum & Art Gallery on February 22 and 23. Members of the UK Homefront re-enactment group will bring this period to life with displays and demonstrations.
